Digital
Art is a relatively recent art form made possible through the use
of computers. It offers the participant artists the opportunity
to explore computer art software such as Painter and Photoshop.
The computer thus becomes a fine arts tool. Our focus is not in
teaching computer skills but in making all the options these programs
offer clearly available to the artists. Thus the artists' simplest
or most complex ideas can be visually rendered, and their thoughts
and feelings can find expression.
There is a newfound freedom in this technology for artists with
or without disabilities. A few of the many choices include image
layering, shape creation and manipulation, special effects brushes,
and artistic filtering. As each participant artist becomes familiar
with these possibilities, he or she is able to guide the facilitator
to achieve the desired effect.
The Whitney Museum in NYC as well
as many others feature exhibits on digital
art as a legitimate form of expression. Here at the Robert Schonhorn
Arts Center our artists' digital work is exhibited as an example
of the creative maturity achieved
in this emerging field. We are planning to showcase this work in
the near future in other venues outside our own gallery. In
the meantime we invite you to view these thought-provoking creations
in our Digital Art Gallery.
Limited edition prints are available for some of these works. Half
of the proceeds go to support the Arts Access Program, and the other
half goes directly to the participant artist who authored the work.
