The
Arts Access Painting Program
provides a population of people who cannot physically paint themselves
with
a means of creating art that is
completely true to their artistic visions.
The program uses the visual language of
a chart system in order to allow the participant artist a method
of communicating his specific intentions to
a facilitator.
The participant is given the opportunity to choose from a variety
of painting systems that have been developed by artists of the Arts
Access program. These painting systems consist of charts and tools,
which are used by the artist as a visual language to communicate
his or her specific art making instructions to the facilitator.
Artists
choose their own colors, quantities, textures, consistencies, shapes,
etc. They make every decision in the process, the facilitator is
merely a neutral party who carries out the artist's instructions.
Through this system the participant artists are given the opportunity
to invent, create and explore their individual curiosities and ideas
freely. The disabilities become irrelevant, and they are free to
create art without their bodies impeding their visions.
To view just a small sampling of the tremendous body of work that
has been created over the years, please visit the Painting
Gallery.
