The basis for all the Art Programs is an established process or
method which enables disabled individuals to express themselves
through art. Our Facilitators bring unique talents and expertise
in their area of art, but they conduct the art sessions with a neutrality
to ensure that the result is truly the work of the artist.
- Painting: Artists
choose their own colors, quantities, textures, consistencies,
shapes, etc. using acrylic paint on canvas. Some artists have
stretched the boundaries of painting by incorporating and attaching
other materials to the canvas.
- Digital:
Applying the same principles as painting, the Digital Art
program lets the artist express themselves using the computer.
Some artists start out with a scanned photo and others start with
lines and shapes. The computer adds the flexibility of experimentation
and the option of undoing and saving multiple versions of a piece.
- Sculpture: The artists
use materials such as foam core, cardboard and styrofoam in the
design and construction of their art. Some participants have chosen
to experiment with unique items such as colored glass, wood, and
even kitchen utensils.
- Dance: As with the
other programs, the goal here is to allow the participants with
disabilities to express themselves fully through art, in this
case, the art of dance. This program brings together disabled
and able-bodied dancers for expression through dance.
- Drama: Participants
have the opportunity to explore the world of acting from a variety
of perspectives. They are exposed to theatre, lectures and films,
and participate in conversations and discussions with professionals
in the dramatic arts. Topics include acting, actors, plays, playwrights,
and drama history.
- Creative Writing:
This program allows expression through the written language. Facilitators
type poems, stories, and manuscripts for the authors.
- Visual Odyssey: Visual
Odyssey is an exciting technology-based program that explores
the medium of videography, photography, or computer generated
art. Through this program the artist is able to capture images
from life and transform them to his or her vision.
